Climate & Environment Control

Temperature, humidity, CO₂ and canopy airflow — designed together, not patched on later.

01 Temperature & Humidity

Temperature and humidity as one problem

Temperature drives growth; humidity drives disease pressure and transpiration. We treat them together, so the dehumidification is sized to the real latent load the crop and irrigation produce — not a rule-of-thumb figure.

In published lettuce studies, a standard setting is 24 °C during the light period and 20 °C during the dark period. LED radiant heat can also lift temperature by 2–4 °C between tiers, so vertical uniformity is designed in rather than discovered later

02 CO₂

CO₂ enrichment where it pays

In a sealed plant factory, CO₂ is a growth input. Enrichment in the range commonly cited in research (around 800–1200 ppm) supports photosynthesis — and interacts with light intensity, so it pays only where climate, light and ventilation are already right. It is a tuning step, not a starting point.

03 Canopy Airflow

Air moving across the canopy

Uniform airflow across the canopy keeps the leaf boundary layer thin — helping gas exchange and helping prevent tipburn and leaf burn. We design canopy airflow to a target of 0.3–1 m/s (our engineering practice), delivered evenly across every tier.

04 Air Distribution

Air distribution, not just capacity

Delivering the right conditions means the air actually reaches the canopy. We design supply and return paths, tier-level distribution and room geometry together, so capacity is not lost to dead zones or short-circuits.

05

What we deliver

A climate scope: heating and cooling, dehumidification sized to latent load, CO₂, and canopy airflow — specified, integrated and commissioned with the rest of the system.

FAQ.

Q: Why does canopy airflow matter for lettuce?

A: Poor airflow is a common cause of tipburn. Keeping air moving across the canopy in the right range supports transpiration and gas exchange.

Q: Do you supply the fans and ducting?

A: Yes — air distribution is part of the climate scope.

Q: Is 800–1200 ppm CO₂ always right?

A: No. Enrichment only pays when light and ventilation are already correct. We set CO₂ per crop and stage after the fundamentals are in place.
